Glad you mentioned the pension shortfalls. Debt and lack of resources are the big stories and could have a very positive effect by getting people to make cheaper, wiser decisions. It also may convince more people to move and stay to the midwest. Pittsburgh seems to be having more people stick around.

Lots of our worst moves cost lots of money.

Peter, I didn't have anything in particular on the unemployment topic in the queue. It is a huge challenge, there is no doubt. I think the reality is that even with a significant recovery in the economy, there are a significant number of people who are going to end up structurally unemployed for quite some time.

My one complaint about new Indy airport is the long walk from entry to gates. No prob for me, but I'm thinking about my Dad in particular. He won't want a wheelchair, but what options are there with no moving walkway?

The new bicycle parking requirements in Cincinnati actually effect more than just new parking garages. Expanded parking garages adding more than 60 spaces must also meet the new requirement, and many existing garages are being converted to meet the new standard.

Cincinnati's international airport (CVG) also scored very highly in the medium-sized airport category finishing just behind Kansas City. Looks like the Midwest does very well on this front, now if only we can start building the nation's best passenger rail stations.

So when can we expect your piece about persistent high joblessness? I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say about that.

Long time reader, first time commenter. Re: the Kansas City school plan, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is pushing a school consolidation plan of its own which involves closing a number of schools. I don't think they've done a good job either at getting community buy-in for changing the system generally, or at selling the particular plan they've come up with. But then no matter what they do it's going to hurt someone and thus be controversial. In any case, they have the Plain Dealer on their side which gives them more weight. I've written a couple of posts about it, and also about the Brookings report at my blog, CuyahogaFreeXchange if you're interested.

Love your blog. Keep up the great work.
