Indianapolis Area Major Investment Studies and Project Proposals

There are several areas in the Indianapolis area where major surface transportation investments have been proposed or have been studied. These are:

• I-465 Southeast Quadrant Reconstruction Project - DONE! (almost) This project completely replaced the pavement and interchanges on this segment of freeway with improved designs.

• I-65 North Widening Project - DONE! This project widened I-65 on the north side of Indianapolis.

• US 31 North Corridor - Upgrading 14 miles of this surface route to a freeway in Hamilton County.

• I-70 West Corridor - Relocation, reconstruction, and widening along with a major new interchange complex.

• I-465 West Widening Project - A currently in the study phase look at what to do with an 11 mile stretch of congested free way on the West Side.

• Northeast Corridor - Highway Improvements - The neverending saga of what to do with the most heavily traveled freeway segments in the state.

• Northeast Corridor - Light Rail - A look at the now faltering plans to bring light rail to Indianapolis.
