The family of 7 year old Amanda Williams received a settlement of $8.5 million from the CTA to resolve a lawsuit over injuries suffered going through a turnstile. Amanda's neck was trapped in the turnstile and she lost consciousnes. Today she suffers from permanent developmental difficulties. [ Source: Chicago Sun-Times 20 May 2000 ]
Oak Park and Evanston have told the CTA that they plan to cut back police patrols of CTA stations unless the transit agency kicks in more money for the program. Both towns hire off duty officers to patrol stations. Crime on the L is already low in both towns. [ Source: Chicago Sun-Times 8 May 2000 ]
Pace is considering a plan that would allow people to pay for their bus fares with a credit card. The existing fare machines would require only minimal changes to accept the cards. [ Source: Chicago Sun-Times 16 May 2000 ]
